I mention this for two reasons, firstly that it might be an encouragement to anyone who finds themselves in a sudden and unfortunate position with regards to finances to look for something new and have the courage to try it (change in both directions really can happen overnight), and secondly because the local papers said that I was writing a gardening blog...so I think I will continue to tell you all about my gardening life and see where it takes us!
So today I finally had the time to take a look around our small rented garden. We moved here in April but with all the turmoil surrounding us, the garden was just maintained and not really explored (it wouldn't take long as it is smaller than the show garden I built!) It also isn't very inspiring, but today my favourite flower in the whole world has just bloomed into life and it has made the garden a whole lot sunnier and enjoyable for it. Leucanthemum vulgare, the native white oxeye daisy with a lovely bright yellow centre is a herbaceus perennial, meaning that it comes back and flowers each summer. I love it for two reasons - it is simple and beautiful, and it attracts wildlife in the form of bees, hoverflies, butterflies and beetles, all of which help to make your garden bloom. It is an open flower and this makes it easy for numerous creatures to get right into the nectar - the food they love! The clump in my garden is quite straggly and really it probably needs the support of other flowers or grasses around it (it would naturally grow in meadows) but it is simply so beautiful that it can live anywhere it wants to in my garden!
