Today started out well and we had made a good start on the main planting when a show official told us they had just been given a weather warning for severe rain and gales over Birmingham…we might want to give the more fragile plants some shelter for the night. Great – just what we need for the lovely tall verbascum, dianthus and peony to snap off in the high winds! So we planted the main structure in the form of various grasses, pittosporum and nandina and nestled the rest of the plants into the box trailer for the night.
The weather can only be described a Chelsea-style appalling and we were all
thoroughly soaked to the bone – even our socks (and some delicates!) could be
wrung out! Dave, Amy and Simon from Prestige Garden Services in Cheshire came to help today and they were a brilliant extra set of hands (or three), helping to move the hedge that had settled squint, lay the gravel and dig out loads of soil, only to put it all back again later on – thanks guys!
